Давно не смотрел новости по Крабовидной туманности. Но вот сходу наткнулся на сообщение, имеющее, возможно, отношение к хронологии. Статья на пол-странички, поэтому приведу полностью. Прав был, похоже, старик Шкловский.

Is There an Acceleration Area in the Crab Nebula?

Abstract. Based on the Chandra observation of the Crab Nebula, the spectra
of the torus, the knots, the wisp, the jet (SE) and its counter-jet (NW) were
measured. The result of the photon index from the above regions seems to
indicate that an acceleration area would exit between the Crab pulsar and its
inner ring.

The Crab Nebula is the remnant of the supernova AD1054 observed by Chinese.
It is the фrst known example of a plerion, and its spectrum is dominated
by synchrotron radiation from radio to gamma rays. The X-ray observations
with the Chandra Observatory provide a new and superb picture of the Crab
Nebula (Willingale et al. 2001; Hester et al. 2002). The recent (1999-2002)
analyse of the Crab Nebula have been focused on its structures and dynamic
evolution (Mori et al. 2001; Willingale et al. 2001).

We measured the X-ray spectra of the structures in the Crab Nebula, which is
thought to be the essential clues to the nature of the Crab. We analyze data from OID 2000 (event 2 фle) with an observation of duration 27.292 ks, released by the Chandra X-ray Center. We analyzed these data with the CIAO 2.3 analysis
package, the CALDB 2.21 calibration database. For every selected area of the
Nebula, we фt the 0:4ц5 keV spectrum with a single power-law continuum with
interstellar absorption, determining the best-фt values of power-law index and
hydrogen column density nH.

The main results are shown in Fig. 1. We фnd that the main structures of
the Crab Nebula (Fig. 1a) have diRerent power-law photon indices. We divide
the torus into 10 concentric annuli (Fig. 1b) and measured their photon indices.
The result is apparent (Fig. 1c). The photon indices decrease from the фrst
annulus of 1.87 to the fourth annulus where they have their lowest value, 1.78.
If this result could be conфrmed by other methods, it could imply that electrons
should be accelerated in the region between the Crab pulsar and the inner ring .
In this respect, the Crab Nebula diRers from other supernova remnants such as
CTB80 (Wang & Seward 1984) and G21.5-0.9 (Slane et al. 2000), where the
photon indices increases radially from the central pulsar to the nebula edge.
