The ill-starred editor of this second edition, Alexander More (1616-1670), had been driven from the chair of Greek in Geneva on suspicion of heresy. Then, having been appointed Professor of Ecclesiastical History at Amsterdam in 1652, he came up against John Milton, who supposed he was the author of Regii sanguinis clamor ad coelum adversus parricidas Anglicanos. It was Milton's vicious personal attack in his Defensio secunda (1654) that eventually led to him losing his new job in 1660.
