Когда европейцы впервые заинтересовались языком эпохи эллинизма?
Довольно поздно - в 20 веке.
a. Originally the common literary dialect of the Greeks ( ) from the close of classical Attic to the Byzantine era. Now extended to include any language or dialect in regular use over a wide area in which different languages or dialects are, or were, in use locally.
[1886 Encycl. Brit. XXI. 653/1 As might be expected, this , like the of the Greeks, has a comparatively limited vocabulary.]
1913 D. B. DURHAM Vocab. Menander 8 The year 600 A.D. is a convenient date at which to divide the Koine from the Greek of the middle agesOf or pertaining to the Hellenists; using the Greek language and following Greek modes of thought or life. a. Applied to the modified form of the Greek language, with many foreign elements, current in Egypt, Syria, and other countries, after the time of Alexander the Great.
Ну, а самим эллинизмом когда?
Hellenistic
1706 PHILLIPS (ed. Kersey), Hellenistical, or Hellenistick, belonging to Greece. 1727-51 CHAMBERS Cycl. s.v., Salmasius rejects the common opinion of the learned touching the Hellenistic language. 1827 G. S. FABER Expiatory Sacr. 111 Through the Hellenistic use of a well-known Hebrew idiom. 1837-9 HALLAM Hist. Lit. (1855) II. 373 He [Salmasius] says..in the last age (i.e. prior to 1643) the very name of Hellenistic was unknown to scholars.
1881 WESTCOTT & HORT Grk. N.T. Introd. 398 The term Hellenistic was coined to denote the language of Greek-speaking Jews.
Итак, эллинизмом заинтересовались чуть ранее - в 18 веке.
И посмотрите, снова - термин ЭЛЛИНИСТИЧЕСКИЙ использовался для обозначения греко-говорящих иудеев.
Вот вам и эпоха эллинизма - до 18 века никто о ней не слыщал и не говорил.
Если у кого-то есть более ранние сведения, милости просим.
